Which One is Better in 2022?

Safety Razor vs Cartridge Razor

Shaving is an extremely important aspect of every man’s life. From that first shave on it becomes part of your routine for the rest of your life.

That being said, the type of razor you choose to shave with is also extremely important. You want to have the most efficient and easy going shave possible while avoiding any irritation to your skin. This is where the debate between the safety razor and cartridge razor comes into play. For decades and decades, the safety razor was a super popular option for many men. However, recently, the cartridge razor has become the most popular razor because of its new design and benefits.

Many men have switched over to the cartridge style razor, but some have stayed with their good old fashioned safety razor. In this article, we will discuss the pros and cons of each razor design and end the debate of the safety razor vs cartridge razor once and for all. Which one is better in 2022? Let’s get into it…

The Safety Razor

The safety razor is a well known razor design, it has been around for a long time. Despite the fact that it’s been around for awhile, it has remained to be a great choice for shaving. The basic premise behind the safety razor is that it is double-edged blade covered by a protective guard. When shaving with this design, you are supposed to utilize both sides of the blade to shave your entire face.

One common belief is that this razor will give you a higher quality shave, it does take more time to invest in a safety razor though. There is a significantly higher learning curve to the safety razor, if you don’t know what you’re doing it’s easy to irritate your skin or cut yourself. For this reason, many men turn to the cartridge razor to save time and effort. Safety razors can be priced very cheaply around $15 and also very expensively up to over $100. Although the initial investment into a safety razor can get pricy, they are much cheaper in the long run compared to cartridge razors. The safety razor itself is generally more durable than plastic cartridge razors.

As far as how to use the safety razor, the principles are pretty much the same as with a cartridge razor. You will want to shave with the grain and rinse the blades whenever too much hair of foam gathers. With a safety razor, it is easier to shave with the natural angles of your face because you won’t be restricted to one position as you would with a cartridge design. The safety razor will perform exactly as you want it to, you can angle the direction of the blade however you want.

As far as replacement blades, on average, expect one blade to last on average one to one and a half weeks. You can get 10 replacement blades for around $5-10, which is cheaper than a pack of ten cartridge blades. Now that we’ve covered the safety razor, let’s move on to the cartridge razor to continue the safety razor vs cartridge razor debate. To conclude, if you enjoy the daily ritual of shaving and want to take pride in the learning curve, then this is the best razor style for you. There are many long-term benefits to this razor type.

The Best Safety Razors

The Cartridge Razor

The cartridge razor is known and the more modern and practical razor design. Almost every major shaving brand has released a cartridge razor design. There is a lot more difference between cartridge razor prices than safety razors. Some cartridge razors can be as inexpensive as $5, while others can cost you up to $150. A staple theme of the cartridge design is that there are usually five blades. This is why some cartridge users report more irritation. One of the most important things to keep in mind with a cartridge razor is that you want to shave with the grain, and only go over an area once.

Just like the safety razor, you should also be rinsing the blades in between every couple of strokes. However, unlike the safety razor, the cartridge design is known to be more beginner friendly. One downside to having multiple blades is that you can’t manipulate the shaving angle as much as you would be able to with a safety razor. Another thing to keep in mind is that the blade quality is usually not as good as a safety razor’s.

For convenience, the cartridge design is much better because it is easier pop cartridges in and out. One cartridge typically lasts between 6-8 shaves, and will cost about $5 per cartridge.

Overall, the cartridge design is very straight forward compared to the safety razor and it is much more convenient for most men.
